It is generally used to store images, preferably quality controlled, and other content that is related to the image, usually accompanied by security information. While most of the application is provided through a graphical user interface, a low-level API can also be used in cases where more flexibility is required or performance issues are of concern.
X9.37 is a standardized format for electronic bank notes which includes all bank notes issued in Europe (with the exception of Euro coins), the USA, Canada and Bermuda.
It can contain the image, text and other information which can be used to create a valid bank note. This format is used for a range of purposes, but most applications (especially fax/scan/copy machines) tend to use it to verify bank notes.
After verification, the note can either be rejected or verified and marked as acceptable.
X9.37 files are generally similar to other image formats, such as.jpg. The format uses DCT compression to compress 16×16 images. This enables the image to be compressed further and make the size of the file smaller.
X9.37 is not an image format. It is a file format for documents in the form of electronic image files. In order to read these files, you need to have a program which can process X9.37 files. A list of these programs is provided in the FAQ section of the site.
A typical example of an X9.37 file is an image of a customer’s bank note. This image can be produced from a bank note and shown to the customer. It is then digitally encrypted.
The customer can then view the image on the computer or on a fax machine. The image can then be transmitted in email or fax to the bank where it can be accepted as valid and verified.
X9.37 files are standardized and contain tags which are used to describe the image. These tags are mainly used

X9.37 or the Electronic Cash Letter (ECL) Files format is a proprietary format for all the layers of the electronic document business. Introduced in April 1999, it is a hybrid file developed by the US based National Cash Register corporation and intended for fast data entry and retrieval on the World wide web. X9.37 is implemented by NCR alone and privately owned by National Cash Register, Inc. and is currently a patented product.
This application is a file converter from X9.37 to other File formats, like HTML, pdf, EXE, ZIP, DOC, RTF, TIFF, GIF and JPEG. There are two categories of images, Stock Images, or ICL and Logos, or ECL. This application enables you to view, delete and move images. It allows you to view images, logos or ICL files using a fast and easy to use visual window. You can also print all images, select a specific image, print the names of all the images and print a text image. You can change the paper and the scale (A4, Letter, A5, A6 or A7). The X9.37 (or X9.372003) specification (ISO/IEC 21567:2003) was originally developed by ANSI X9.37 committee in order to standardize pictographs in use in the trade and internationally. The ISO specification, ISO 21567:2003 uses only the graphic characters taken from the 14 pictographic collections (see Appendix A for the collection list), though the ITU recommendation, ITU-T X.937 can also be used.
The X9.37 specification is now part of a growing specification family of image related formats. The X9.37 format is a compressed format and its description is given in the Annex A of this specification.
